for Oskabya – On Earth as One

This project is more than just an album cover. It is an artistic all-encompassing experience that seamlessly combines music, visual design, and digital extensions. On Earth as One is an album that transports you to another world through field recordings of nature and various vocalists. To visually emphasize the message that the artist Oskabya wants to convey, I developed the following concept:

At the center are four figures: snake, jaguar, plant, and human. Each tells its own story, carries its own energy, and simultaneously merges on the front cover into one unity – On Earth as One.

In many indigenous cultures, the snake is a symbol of renewal. Shedding its skin represents letting go of old patterns and the past. The jaguar, ruler of the jungle and thus over life and death, embodies the courage to face one’s own shadow work. Like close confidants, the central figures gaze together toward the west, which is also associated with the jaguar. The whiskers of the jaguar touch the human’s face, the snake gracefully coils around the human’s neck and a central plant stem. The two parallel plant stems frame the unity compositionally, allowing the rest of the jungle to appear wilder, yet clearly integrating the plant world into the whole. Through the graphic frame, whose clear design is reminiscent of Mayan script or architecture, you can look through a kind of portal into another world.

All figures from the cover also appear individually: the snake and jaguar on the vinyl record, the plant on the back cover, and the human on the insert. They stand for themselves and simultaneously for the whole. This paradox is, for me, one of the most beautiful and sometimes elusive themes from which existence is woven. That’s why I tried to breathe as much mystical power and soul into each figure as possible, thus giving the message of On Earth as One a tangible, experiential component.

A special moment arises through augmented reality. With the free Artivive app, the insert comes to life anywhere. Simply point your smartphone or tablet at the illustration — and the human figure begins to speak, a spark lights up in their eyes. They meet you on a deeper level and recite the text that can be read on the back of the insert.

For me, this is a coherent extension of the overall concept: a connection of analog art and digital magic that not only accompanies the music but intensifies it. This project shows how an album can evolve into an immersive experience that touches people, captivates visually, and remains long in their memory.
In times of AI, corporate giants and billionaires, it is more important than ever to have the courage to give artistic creation the space it deserves – and not leave the right to decide in the hands of a few.

To further support the project, I created three large-format paintings (Ancestors) and animated a stop-motion short film (Daphne), which expanded the album release event into an art exhibition.
